Social anxiety is something that’s considered part of life, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be part of your life. In fact, social anxiety is more than just a little patch of nervousness. Social anxiety is anxiety over social situations — even before they’ve occurred. You could have a speech that needs to be made six months from now, and if you have social anxiety you’re already sweating bullets and dreading every minute. A lot of people think that it’s impossible to break through social anxiety, so they just resign themselves to that racing heartbeat, those sweaty palms, and that rising wave of nausea.

You don’t have to live your life that way. We say that a lot, but with these tips you can overcome social anxiety.

First and foremost, you shouldn’t think that you have to fight social anxiety alone. Finding a support group is really the best way to make absolutely sure that you’re going to be able to overcome social anxiety over time. Opening up to someone else that is going through the same issues that you’re going through is definitely a good thing. You have to be ready to at least confide to someone that’s having the same problems as you are. There’s no shame in reaching out for help. How will you get stronger if your mind is an island?

From here, you might want to keep a diary. It’s better to keep a running log of your thoughts and feelings instead of just keeping them bottled up. This can trigger anxiety attack son it sown as you start thinking that there’s no way that anyone could ever appreciate the contributions that you make to this world. That’s not true either — if you really thought about it, you could probably think about three or four things that you’re really good at.

Of course, if these tips don’t work out for you, then you might have social anxiety to the point where only a qualified medical professional can step in. This might not be what everyone needs, but if you do find yourself slipping further and further away from your social goals, you might need to see a therapist and possibly a psychiatrist to get more help with your problem. Medication is just one solution to explore, and it doesn’t make you weak at all for turning to it. Why not check out your options today?

When you’re trying to get in shape, it can feel like there’s always a wall in front of you, blocking you from the healthier life that you deserve. It doesn’t have to be that way at all. You just need quality information that you can trust.

So today’s fitness tip is simple: if you really want to lose weight, build muscle, and get healthy, you will need to understand that longer times in the gym really aren’t better.

It’s actually pretty simple – you don’t want to strain your body too much. There’s a fine line between pushing your body and letting it repair itself and constantly training hard around the clock while your body would love to do nothing more than rest. You have to take things like this into perspective. Sure, you could train hard all of the time, but that creates stress on your body. When you add massive stress like that, you’re raising levels of cortisol in your body. Cortisol is responsible for that sluggish, stubborn fat around our midsection that just won’t go away. By leading a calmer life you can lower your cortisol levels to the point where you don’t have to worry about them too terribly much.

Give yourself plenty of rest days when you are getting started. Yes, we’re aware that there are programs that only give you one rest day a week — that’s really not the best for your body, and you will definitely feel the pain before too long.

Everything has a price. If you want a healthier body and a sleek frame, you do indeed have to work for it. However, it’s the level of work that we’re concerned with. We don’t want you to think that you have to work out 7 days a week for hours at a time.

A 20 minute interval in the gym can still give you great results — anything over 45 minutes is really too much at one time, and you might need to scale accordingly.

When something isn’t fun, we tend not to want to do it. The overall key to better fitness is to make it as fun as possible, no matter how long the road to a better body really is. You just need to keep things in perspective and everything else will fall into place — you’ll see!

Are you not feeling well? Chances are good that you’re not feeling as good as you could, but it’s hard to really pinpoint what’s going on. Even if you’ve finally managed to master some lifestyle changes, you could be at a point where you’ve basically done everything that you can do. Maybe you’ve already worked out a diet that suits you. Maybe you’ve already worked out your sleeping habits and you’re now sleeping like a baby. Stress is something that’s part of the human existence, but you might have gotten to a point where you can actually rest a little more than you work. Those are all good things…but what if the problem is hiding in your blood?

Believe it or not, a regular blood test can actually catch a lot more than you think. Indeed, it’s really all about making sure that you’re feeling okay from the inside out. It can be tempting to skip the blood work issues because you don’t want to get pricked with a needle. That’s a very valid fear and we’re not making fun of you at all. It’s never a good time to be prodded with needles, but the results of the blood test are well worth the minimal pain. You don’t want to wait too long, because what if your blood work reveals deficiencies that you need to correct and you don’t know about them? That can cause serious health problems.

For example, if you’re a woman with low iron, you might be experiencing a lot of fatigue — even if you’ve been getting what would otherwise be a great diet! If you’ve been trying to figure out why you’ve been having so many problems, getting your blood checked can reveal a lot of things. Your doctor can run a lot of tests on one sample, so it’s not like you have to always get your blood drawn.

In order to make sure that you are prepared to get your blood drawn, you need to pay close attention to the doctor’s instructions. In many cases, you might have to go ahead and do a 24 hour fast in order to have “clean” results. It can be hard to give up food for 24 hours, but it’s really not that bad. Think of it this way — if you do it right the first time, you won’t have to do it multiple times just to get it done right.

If one doctor gives you attitude or doesn’t want to explain your test results properly to you, you might want to try to just get a second opinion. Keep in mind that the rise of the Internet has also made it a lot easier to get answers — you can look online and get other opinions. A lot of people are taking charge of their own health and looking up details to their own problems.

Overall, you have what it takes to improve your own health — go out and get your blood work done!

It’s time to get excited about meta-research — especially when it gives us the chance to actually change our habits for the better. You see, a lot of people assume that salt is a bad thing that’s going to end up increasing their chances of developing heart disease. However, is that really true? Is that really something that is bound to happen, or can things be different?

Meta-research is the new scientific buzzword surrounding the process of re-analyzing the studies that we’ve cherished for so long. These are the studies that doctors have used to tell us to eat less salt and to avoid saturated fats. We’ve already cracked the saturated fat myth, so why not start talking about the war on salt in a little more detail?

Simply put, we really need to end the war on salt. This is because the current study of seven time-honored studies from the American Journal of Hypertension discovered that there’s no real link between reducing your salt intake and reducing the risks of heart attacks, strokes, or death in people with normal or even high blood pressure.

The reason why we need to give up the war on salt is because it’s keeping us from enjoying our food in a flavorful way. Salt can add flavor without adding things that are destructive to the body, like carbs, starches, and sugars. In fact, more and more evidence is arising that it’s the carbs that we ingest that ultimately determine the type of health we’re going to have overall.

So don’t let anyone take away your salt shaker or push you towards lower sodium food – these are foods that are highly processed and ripe with unnecessary chemicals that really do have a strong link to poorer health — why would you want to walk down that direction? We’d rather have the salt, please!

If you’re trying to lose weight, we definitely don’t blame you. However, it’s the mental attitude that we have when we’re trying to shed a few pounds that will make all of the difference.

The best tip that we can give you right here, right now is that you need to set the scale aside. Far too often people get way too obsessed with what the scale says. For starters, if you find yourself gaining weight while you’re on a diet and exercise plan, you might be surprised to find that you’re actually not doing the wrong things. You’re actually building muscle. You’re actually getting stronger with each step, and that’s a good thing! Muscle is good because you’re burning more calories through muscle than if you just had fat.

Instead of getting a regular bathroom scale, you might want to go ahead and get a fancier scale that allows you to measure your body fat percentage. Of course, this is going to be a rough estimate — the only way to do a full on body assessment is in a lab with specialized equipment. This is very costly and it’s not going to really make too much of a difference. Even if all you have is a bathroom scale with body fat measuring, you’re still pretty much good to go.

Don’t think that you have to give up the scale completely, but setting it aside is a good idea. Stick to a schedule when it comes to weighing yourself. Weekly or monthly is a lot better than daily, due to the body’s natural fluctuations. You don’t want to get deep into a weight loss program and get discouraged because the scale isn’t moving as fast as you like.

Focus on health first, and the rest will definitely follow — we promise!

Taking control of your health is something that definitely doesn’t happen overnight. The first thing that you have to think about is whether or not you’re even ready to take the steps necessary to achieve a higher standard of health. This is something that a lot of people actually don’t really think about enough, and it’s absolutely critical. You don’t want to come to the point in your life where you really just go along with what conventional wisdom says you should do. You should branch out a bit more and find out what really works for your body and what doesn’t work for your body. You might have to make some lifestyle changes. You might need to dig down inside yourself and really figure out what’s going to be important to you. Is this something that can take some work? Sure it is — you will need to just make sure that you focus as much as possible on the road ahead, not the road that you left. It’s easy to beat yourself up and wish that you had achieved a higher standard of health beforehand, but now is not the time to walk down that road.

You have to start somewhere, so let’s ask the question — have you had your blood pressure checked? Believe it or not, blood pressure plays a vital role in measuring our overall health. If you have high blood pressure, then your body might be in a bad state and you just don’t know it. We’re not saying that you have to check your blood pressure around the clock, but your blood pressure is a good indicator of how healthy you really are.

A good blood pressure is composed of two components — the systolic reading and the diastolic reading. The systolic number is on top and is always read first, followed by the diastolic number on the bottom. The systolic number measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart muscle actually contracts, whereas the diastolic measurement is the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats.

You want to aim for a reading of no more than 120 over 80 — that’s going to be the gold standard. If you’re under this measurement then you should congratulate yourself. However, if you’re over this measurement, then you will want to start thinking about what you can do to ward off heart disease.

Protecting your heart with healthy fats like olive oil and coconut oil is a great idea. If you have a family history of heart disease, your doctor might recommend that you actually monitor your blood pressure at home. Having your blood pressure checked at least once a year by a doctor is recommended if you already know that it’s well within the range. If you have a history of heart problems or a family background of them, you might want to actually start taking action as soon as possible — you really don’t want to take chances with your health if you can help it, right?

Overall, now is definitely the time to step up and at least get screened regularly for high blood pressure — it truly could save your life!

Not getting enough sleep? Unfortunately, you really are in good company. In fact, if there was one complaint that most people have from day to day, it’s the fact that they really don’t get enough sleep. They really don’t get enough time to just sit back and be with their thoughts. There’s a lot of pressure and pressure to be high performing all the time, and this really cuts into a person’s sleep schedule badly. It’s better to make sure that you can actually get the quality sleep that you need rather than just power through from day to day. That’s a recipe for pure disaster, and there’s really no getting around it.

Thankfully there are plenty of steps that you can take for a better night’s sleep. First and foremost, you can make sure that your room is completely dark. As mentioned before, light is really the enemy of a good night’s sleep. However, some people still can’t fall asleep. They have a lot of things on their mind. This is where keeping a dairy can really help you get a better night’s sleep. Once you commit it all to paper, you have a higher chance of actually letting those problems go. That doesn’t mean that those problems are solved, but how are you going to get anything done if you don’t get some rest? You will just end up stressing yourself out, and who really wants to deal with that at all?

The type of pillow you have could be making it hard for you to get sleep. A pillow shouldn’t be so soft that it practically melts underneath you — you will want to make sure that you actually have some structure there. A firm pillow has been shown to help people get sleep when a soft pillow just won’t work.

It’s the same with a mattress. It’s better to get a mattress that is more firm than soft, so that you have excellent back support. It doesn’t make sense to try to get a bed so soft that you practically sink into it. That might be good for a moment, but it’s going to come to a point where it’s really hard to move around.

You’ll have to really make sure that you experiment with the different tips that you find to find the set of strategies that are going to be ultimately right for you. It’s better to make sure that you give it your best shot though. Your body really does need proper sleep in order to function — so don’t deprive yourself!
